ISLAMABAD, Jul 10 (APP):Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Khalid Hussain Magsi Wednesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the local pharmaceutical sector, terming self-reliance in biotechnology as essential for the country’s economic progress.
During a high-level meeting with pharmaceutical industry stakeholders, the minister said the Prime Minister has instructed all concerned departments to foster closer collaboration with local pharma companies to move towards greater self-sufficiency.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Science and Technology is taking concrete measures to provide technical, research, and production support to the industry.
Magsi highlighted efforts to enhance the production capacity of computer-controlled fermenters and promote their local manufacturing.
He also announced plans to upgrade the country’s Research and Development infrastructure for biochemicals, biopharmaceuticals, and bio-proteins to meet global standards.
Reducing dependence on imports and promoting local production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) were identified as key goals to ensure better utilization of national resources and build a biotechnology-driven economy.
He further directed the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) to immediately establish a direct communication channel with local pharmaceutical firms to facilitate joint development and build a globally competitive industry.
