Dera Ismail Khan, Jul 09 (APP):Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Parliamentary Leader in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and Member Provincial Assembly (MPA), Ahmed Kundi, has strongly condemned the arrest of PPP District President Farhan Afzal Dhap, calling it a clear act of political victimization carried out under the guise of an anti-encroachment operation.
Kundi stated that Farhan Dhap was peacefully leading a protest against what he described as an “unlawful and selective” anti-encroachment drive when the police abruptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) and arrested him.
“Farhan Dhap’s arrest during a lawful and peaceful demonstration is not just undemocratic—it is a calculated move to suppress opposition voices,” Kundi said. “This action reflects a clear misuse of administrative authority, aimed at silencing political dissent under the pretext of enforcing law.”
He further criticized the provincial government’s approach, stating that such retaliatory actions are a growing sign of intolerance toward democratic expression.
“The arrest of Farhan Afzal Dhap is not only unjustified but also reflects the government’s growing intolerance towards peaceful protest,” he added. “This is a clear case of political revenge. The use of state machinery to suppress political opponents is condemnable and must be stopped immediately.”
Kundi demanded the immediate release of Dhap and called for an independent and transparent inquiry into the incident.
“We demand the immediate release of Farhan Dhap and call for an independent inquiry into the incident. The PPP will not be intimidated and will continue its peaceful struggle for justice, democracy, and the rights of the people,” Kundi affirmed.
Meanwhile, the PPP leadership also urged human rights organizations, legal forums, and civil society to take notice of what they called an illegal and politically motivated arrest. The party has vowed to raise the issue at all relevant platforms until justice is ensured.
