LAHORE, Jul 08 (APP):Scattered rainfall was experienced in the city on Tuesday, with the MET Office forecasting similar weather conditions over the next 24 hours.
According to WASA records, the highest rainfall in Lahore was recorded at Nishtar Town with 53 mm, followed by 47 mm at Jail Road, 44 mm at Qurtaba Chowk, and 37.5 mm at the Airport. Other recorded measurements included 43 mm at Gulberg Head Office, 35 mm each at Laxmi Chowk and Gulshan Ravi, 34 mm at Iqbal Town, and 29 mm at Samanabad. Lower rainfall figures were noted at Johar Town (28 mm), Chowk Na Khuda (27 mm), Mughalpura (24 mm), Pani Wala Talab (7 mm), Farrukhabad (5 mm), Tajpura (3 mm), and Upper Mall (2 mm).
Meanwhile, the MET Office has issued a weather alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall from the night of July 8 to July 10. The downpours may trigger flash flooding in local nullahs and streams across Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, the hill torrents of D.G. Khan, northeast Punjab, Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan including Barkhan, Kohlu, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Sibi, Loralai, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Panjgur, and Turbat.
The department also warned of potential landslides and mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas of KP, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir, along with a risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures during the ongoing weather activity.
Monsoon currents are currently penetrating most parts of the country, while a westerly wave is affecting upper and central regions. Rain-wind/thundershowers are expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Islamabad. Isolated heavy falls are also likely in Kashmir, northeast Punjab, and Islamabad.
Rainfall was also reported in several other cities, including Sheikhupura, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Islamabad, Okara, Murree, Faisalabad, Multan, Kasur, Mandi Bahauddin, Balakot, Malam Jabba, Kakul, Dir, Kalat, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Badin, Padidan, and Bagrote.
Tuesday’s highest temperature was recorded at Nokkundi and Dalbandin, where the mercury hit 45°C. In Lahore, the maximum temperature was 34°C.
