Commissioner to head Inquiry Committee on Liyari Building Collapse

KARACHI, Jul 08 (APP):The Sindh Government has constituted a five-member committee, headed by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, to investigate the causes behind the collapse of a multi-storey building in the Baghdadi area of Lyari Town, District South.
According to an official notification, the inquiry committee will include Special Secretary Local Government Ayesha Hameed, Director Complaints Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) Nadeem Ahmed, Deputy Director (Technical) SBCA Asif Ali Langah, and Section Officer (HTP-1) Local Government Department Hammadullah Seehar.
The committee has been directed to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident, which occurred on July 4, 2025, and submit its findings within 48 hours. The Terms of Reference (ToRs) also mandated the committee to identify those responsible for negligence and propose recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Furthermore, the committee is tasked with developing a mechanism for the evacuation of residents from buildings deemed dangerous. It has been authorized to co-opt any relevant officer if required during the course of the inquiry, the notification stated.
