IGP praises police for exemplary Ashura security arrangements

LAHORE, Jul 07 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar on Monday commended the Punjab Police for ensuring exemplary security arrangements during 9th, 10th Muharram without any untoward incident.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, more than 134,000 officers and personnel were deployed across Punjab, including over 15,000 in Lahore, to safeguard more than 9,200 processions and 38,000 Majalis.
Dr. Usman visited the main procession route in Lahore, including Nisar Haveli and Karbala Gamay Shah Imam Bargah, where he reviewed security arrangements and interacted with police personnel and mourners. He also visited the Safe City Headquarters and monitored operations from the command centre.
The IGP praised the efforts of CCPO Lahore, all RPOs and DPOs, as well as Special Branch, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and other operational units. He also acknowledged the support extended by the Pakistan Army and Rangers during the Muharram security operations.
Addressing the role of digital monitoring, the IGP said that action against the spread of hate content on social media continued. In the past 24 hours, 25 cases were reported, 19 FIRs registered, and 18 arrests made. Over the last week, 130 cases were registered and 148 individuals arrested.
Dr. Anwar reiterated that elements spreading sectarian hatred and objectionable content online would be dealt with strictly.
