LAHORE, Jul 07 (APP):Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood warning for rivers Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and their adjacent tributaries, anticipating an unusual rise in water levels between July 7 and 9.
A high-level flood alert is in place for the Chenab River at Marala, while medium to high-level warnings cover the Ravi River and nearby tributaries of the Chenab, including Bahin, Basantar, Deg, Ek, Palkho, Bhimber, Halsi, and Dora. Additionally, flash flood warnings have been issued for river basins in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Urban flooding risks are also expected in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Rawalpindi divisions. The PDMA has alerted commissioners, deputy commissioners, and WASA officials across Punjab to prepare for the situation.
Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed Rescue 1122 teams to finalise all preparedness measures, emphasising the need for full readiness in emergency control rooms. He stressed the importance of maintaining adequate stocks of petrol and diesel for rescue operations.
The DG urged the public to stay informed through regular updates, cooperate with authorities during emergency evacuations, and follow all precautionary measures issued. He also called for the evacuation of houses and livestock from vulnerable riverbed areas and the provision of food, clean water, and other essential facilities in flood relief camps.
