Rescue 1122 provided services to 48,880 mourners in Punjab: Secretary

MULTAN, Jul 07 (APP):Emergency Services Department Secretary Dr. Rizwan Naseer appreciated rescuers who sacrificed their leave to provide emergency cover to processions/ Majlis in all districts of Punjab.
He stated that Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) provided emergency cover to 48,880 mourners during 4,531 events of Muharram in Punjab. Among them, 47,574 mourners who sustained injuries due to flagellation were provided with dressings and appropriate first aid, while 1,306 with severe injuries and deep cuts were shifted to hospitals for advanced medical care. He said that the Punjab Emergency Service responded to over 12,000 emergencies alongside providing Muharram medical cover.
The secretary was chairing a post-Muharram review meeting on Monday, which was attended by heads of  Wings of Emergency Services Department, Deputy Director Operations while Divisional Emergency Officers and District Emergency Officers attended via video link.
The Deputy Director Operations (DD Ops) briefed the Secretary that emergency plans for Muharram were implemented in close coordination with Deputy Commissioners in all districts of Punjab. More than 4,531 processions/events were provided with emergency cover with 12,000 rescuers, 815 ambulances, 2,166 rescue motorbikes and 316 fire & rescue emergency vehicles in all districts of Punjab. He also briefed in detail about the emergency cover provided in each district of Punjab. Besides, Rescue 1122 also responded to over 12,000 emergencies on the 9th & 10th of Muharram, which included 8,091 medical emergencies, 2,401 road traffic accidents, 123 fire incidents and 1,723 other miscellaneous emergencies.
The Deputy Director Operations (DD Ops) briefed that 1,644 mourners were provided with first aid and 30 were shifted to hospitals in Lahore, 3,411 were given first aid & 126 hospitalized in Faisalabad, 2,543 were provided first aid & 175 hospitalized in Multan, 1,073 were provided first aid & 26 hospitalized in Rawalpindi, 1,839 were given first aid & 20 hospitalized in Gujranwala, 2,382 were provided first aid & 119 hospitalized in Bhakkar, while 2,443 mourners received first aid and 22 were shifted to hospitals in Hafizabad and 32,239 mourners were provided first aid and 788 were shifted to hospitals in remaining all districts of Punjab.
The secretary appreciated the operational staff for selflessly sacrificing their leave to provide rescue and emergency cover during Muharram processions and rescuers deployed to meet any challenge in flood prone district across Punjab. He directed District Emergency Officers (DEOs) near rivers and hill torrents to be on high alert and instructed them to keep their flood rescue teams along with equipment prepared for any untoward situation.
