LAHORE, Jul 03 (APP):A total of 932 social media accounts have been reported and 74 individuals arrested across Punjab in the past three days for uploading hate speech and sectarian content on digital platforms.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, the action was taken by the Cyber Patrolling and Quick Response Cell, targeting individuals spreading inflammatory and provocative content on digital platforms.
The spokesperson said the cyber patrolling cell is operational round-the-clock and monitors social media for sectarian, hate-based, and inciting material. The dedicated unit includes representatives from the Home Department, Punjab Police, Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
Immediate legal action is being taken on religious hate content, and the cell maintains constant coordination with the Special Branch for swift response, he added.
The spokesperson reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy against online incitement and warned that no one will be allowed to disrupt public peace through digital platforms.
Citizens have been urged to use social media responsibly and refrain from sharing or promoting any sectarian or hate-driven content.
