QUETTA, Jul 01 (APP):Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Tuesday assured the Federal Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Moin Watto that the Balochistan government along with central regime and the Sindh administration to successfully implement the Kachi Canal project so that the foundation of an agricultural revolution could be laid in the areas.
He said this in a meeting regarding Kachi Canal which was chaired by Federal Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Moin Wattoo to make Kachi Canal Phase 2 and 3 feasible and to consider the challenges facing the project in which the top leadership of Balochistan and Sindh and relevant experts participated.
CM Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti and CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah participated in the meeting via video link while Minister for Irrigation Balochistan Mir Sadiq Umrani, Minister for Irrigation Sindh Jamshoro and relevant federal and provincial officials also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, a detailed review was taken of the protection from possible mountain flood rails and environmental impacts of Phase 2 and 3 of the Kachi Canal project.
CM Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti proposed the formation of a committee of experts to resolve outstanding technical issues in the meeting which was unanimously approved by all participants.
The meeting unanimously decided to establish a Joint Technical Working Group which will include experts from Balochistan, Sindh and the Federation.
This committee will submit a comprehensive technical report and actionable recommendations within three weeks so that the project can be made as flood-free and viable as possible.
Speaking on the occasion, Balochistan CM Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that the Kachhi Canal project is the backbone of Balochistan’s economy and with the completion of its phases, millions of acres of land would be irrigated.
He said that the Balochistan government wants all outstanding issues to be resolved through mutual consultation and consensus so that no party has reservations.
The Balochistan CM said that a long-term and workable solution must be found under the guidance of experts which not only benefits Balochistan but also prevents any area including Sindh from facing flood damage.
He expressed his determination that the Balochistan government, along with the federal government and the Sindh government would successfully implement the Kachi Canal project so that the foundation of an agricultural revolution could be laid in the region.
