RAWALPINDI, Jul 01 (APP): Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth, while commending the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for interfaith harmony, on Tuesday said that she was ensuring practical steps to promote mutual respect, peace and unity.
The minister was chairing a meeting of the Divisional Peace Committee here to review law and order situation in the Rawalpindi Division during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Maulana Tahir Ashrafi specially attended the meeting.
Besides the committee members, Commissioner Rawalpindi Aamir Khattak, Regional Police Officer Babar Sarfraz Alpa and deputy commissioners of Rawalpindi, Jhelum and Chakwal, along with senior district and police officers also attended the meeting.
The chief minister, he said, had formed a cabinet committee to maintain an atmosphere of peace and order in the province.
Stressing the need for unity and consensus, he said the government was ensuring implementation of the code of conduct in that regard.
The minister said that the Divisional Peace Committee and the peace committees established at the district and tehsil levels were active to maintain peace and order. The Committee was working together with the administration for the purpose, he added.
Bherth said the holy month of Muharram “teaches all Muslims a lesson of self-sacrifice”.
Maulana Ashrafi on the occasion said that the Rawalpindi administration had made excellent arrangements for peaceful observance of Muharram. “The way the government and administration in Punjab are in touch with the Ulema and Mashaikh is remarkable,” he added.
Ashrafi said that the implementation of code of conduct, which had already evolved in the form of the ‘Paigham-e-Pakistan’ (Message of Pakistan) with consensus, was being ensured.
He said Imam Hussain (AS) was an example of peace, brotherhood and tolerance not only for Muslims but also for all human beings. “Love for the Ehl e Bayt (AS) is part of our faith. We are proud that we are all Hussainis,” he affirmed.
Maulana Ashrafi noted that the Caravan of Peace and Unity among Muslims was playing a constructive role in maintaining brotherhood, and peace and order in the beloved homeland. The scholars of all schools of thought had always played a constructive role in that regard, he added.
He supported the Pakistan Government’s demands for independence of Kashmir and Palestine.
