LAHORE, Jun 28 (APP):The Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) has announced a major step forward in worker welfare by launching evening OPD services at Nawaz Sharif Social Security Hospital, Lahore, starting July 1.
The initiative, being implemented on the special directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to ensure that registered workers and their families receive quality medical care beyond regular working hours.
In a media briefing, Medical Superintendent Dr. Waqas Rasheed and Medical Advisor Dr. Humaira Buzdar shared that in the first phase, evening OPDs will offer services in Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, and Radiology. Dental and Physiotherapy services will also be available during evening shifts.
The program will initially cover PESSI hospitals in Lahore, Shahdara, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Multan, and Faisalabad. Senior consultants and specialist doctors will be available in the evenings to ensure that workers do not have to take time off from work to access medical services. This not only supports workers’ health but also helps employers maintain uninterrupted productivity.
Punjab Minister for Labour Faisal Ayub Khokhar and Commissioner Social Security Muhammad Ali praised the initiative, calling it a transformative step for the welfare of the working class.
Medical Advisor Dr. Humaira Buzdar noted that the evening shifts are designed to protect workers’ time, health, and livelihoods, core objectives of the department.
The media briefing also highlighted various ongoing and completed welfare projects of PESSI. Director General Headquarters Azhar Hussain Minhas, senior officials, and medical staff were also present at the briefing.
