LAHORE, Jun 26 (APP): In order to deal with the potential threat of urban flooding due to monsoon rains, Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman has directed all departments concerned to remain on high alert across the province.
Chairing a video link meeting with deputy commissioners at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday, the Chief Secretary reviewed in detail the precautionary measures being taken to address the risks associated with monsoon-related urban flooding.
He emphasized the importance of completing all necessary safety arrangements in advance.
He asked the officers to ensure regular cleaning of drains and sewerage lines to improve the drainage system’s efficiency.
He mentioned that special arrangements should be made for the immediate removal of rainwater from low-lying areas, and all de-watering pumps and related machinery must be kept fully operational to enable swift emergency response.
The Chief Secretary also reviewed progress on the beautification plan being implemented in various districts.
He stated that in line with the Chief Minister’s vision, a comprehensive plan is underway to modernize and beautify cities throughout Punjab. This includes the uplift of markets, main roads, and other key public spaces, he added.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary Local Government Department, Director General LDA, and senior officials from relevant departments, while all divisional and deputy commissioners participated via video link.
