KARACHI, Jun 26 (APP):On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed every year on June 26, the Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) undertook a series of impactful initiatives to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug use and trafficking.
The day serves to highlight the global threat posed by drugs and smuggling, reminding nations of the devastating consequences these pose to individuals and societies, said a news release on Thursday.
Drugs are a silent poison, taking lives and undermining the health of entire communities. The Pakistan Coast Guards reiterated the need for collective efforts in this ongoing battle.
To mark the day, the PCG organized educational awareness sessions for school and college students, educating youth about the physical, mental, and social harms caused by drug use. Additionally, a large-scale destruction ceremony was held near Hassan Shah Mazar in Karachi, where confiscated narcotics and smuggled items were incinerated.
As part of their ongoing operations in 2025, the Pakistan Coast Guards have seized and destroyed massive quantities of contraband across Gwadar, Uthal, and Karachi. The items destroyed include 10,862 kilograms of cannabis (charas), 1,758 kilograms of heroin, 117 kilograms of crystal meth (ice), 80 kilograms of crystal, 150 kilograms of bhang, 2,888 bottles of liquor and 2,402 tons of beer
The estimated value of the destroyed narcotics in the international market is approximately $329 million, a testament to the effectiveness of PCG’s anti-narcotics efforts.
Pakistan Coast Guards reaffirmed their commitment to continue these awareness and enforcement efforts each year to curb the menace of drugs and smuggling. The force remains fully dedicated to safeguarding the country from the harmful impacts of illegal substances and upholding the integrity of national borders.
