RAWALPINDI, Jun 23 (APP): The Livestock Department Rawalpindi is continuing a public awareness campaign about precautions to avoid Congo fever (CCHF) as per the advisory issued by the Punjab Government.
“In the wake of Congo fever cases surfaced in the last few days, guidelines about safety measures are being conveyed to livestock farmers, butchers and the common people through Farmer’s Day, Kisan Bethak, radio programmes and newspapers on daily basis,” a DPR news release said on Monday.
Mobile veterinary dispensaries, it added, were also disseminating information in rural areas through announcements, and by distributing brochures and other awareness material about the disease in urban areas.
As per the Livestock Department’s advisory, one should wear full-sleeved clothes and closed shoes while visiting cattle markets, and avoid touching animals without gloves.
Likewise, children and elderly people should not visit markets.
“Wear a mask and light-coloured clothes, besides avoiding to pick up and kill ticks with hands,” the advisory said.
It further said high fever, headache, back pain, joint pain, vomiting, red eyes, and rashes on the body and palate were common symptoms of the Congo virus.
It said livestock keepers, agricultural workers, medical practitioners, butchers and those working in slaughterhouses, and veterinarians were at risk of being affected from the diseases.
Complete caution is required with blood, whether it was from a sick animal or a sick human, the news release said.
