SCCI-TDAP organize awareness seminar on impacts of GSP Plus status, FTAs on export promotion

PESHAWAR, Jun 23 (APP): Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with Trade Development Authority of Pakistan on Monday organized an awareness seminar on Impacts of GSP Plus status and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) on export promotion.
The session was chaired by SCCI president Fazal Moqeem Khan.
The Chamber’s Senior Vice President Abdul Jalil Jan, vice president Shehryar Khan, members of executive committee of the Chamber Saifullah Khan, Adnan Nasir, Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Rabia Basri, and other office bearers, along with exporters Dr Khushal Khan, Mazarul Haq, Atif Rashid Khawaja, Rashid Iqbal Siddiqui, Fazal Wahid, Faiz Rasool, Ishtiaq Muhammad Paracha, Secretary General SCCI Muqtasid Ahsan and traders attended the session.

Fazal Moqeem in his opening remarks stressed the need to reap full benefits from GSP plus status and Free Trade Agreements to enhance the country’s exports.
He was of the view that immense potential was available in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that can improve the export.
He, however, mentioned that export process has adversely affected owing to imposition of two percent provincial infrastructure development cess (IDC) on export, as result, export had completely shifted to other parts of the country.
SCCI President urged the provincial government of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to completely abolish the two percent cess to revive the export from the province.
Senior officials of the TDAP apprised participants about significance of GSP Plus status and FTAs whereas the trainer through multimedia presentation elaborated session about key procedures, rules and regulations, bilateral trade pacts between various states and other major points that were essential for taking advantages for the GSP plus status and FTAs that had been signed by Pakistan with various countries.
Participants lauded the efforts of the Chamber and TDAP for arranging such an informative session and asked a number of questions which were responded by senior officials in an elaborative manner.
Members of the chamber proposed holding further such sensitization sessions on trade-related rules and regulations.
