Extraordinary security measures being ensured for Muharram: Khawaja Salman

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Jun 23 (APP):Punjab Minister for Health and Chairman Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafiq said on Monday that extraordinary security measures were being put in place across Punjab to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram ul Haram.
The minister, leading the cabinet committee on law and order as it’s chairman, made these observations while presiding over a meeting with officials of divisional and district administration and police of DG Khan besides heads of different departments here.
Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmad Chaudhry and Regional Police Officer (RPO) informed that total 1360 processions and 4658 Majalis would be held across DG Khan division from first to 10th of Muharram ul Haram and all arrangements have been finalized to provide security cover. Security plan would also cover over 5000 Masajid, 581 Imambargah, and 2484 Madaris. They further informed that help from Pakistan Army and Rangers has also been sought to throw an impenetrable security blanket over DG Khan division.
DPOs and deputy commissioners of Layyah, DG Khan, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, and Rajanpur districts also gave briefing to the cabinet committee.
Khawaja Salman Rafiq appealed all schools of thought to play their active role and ensure the code of conduct issued by the home department is honoured and followed in letter and spirit.
The minister heaped praise on Ulema from all schools of thought, adding that all the peace committees were active and playing a positive role.
Punjab Home secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi said that central control room was receiving reports from all the districts, adding that officials would remain deployed till the conclusion of all processions and Majalis.
Additional IG Chaudhry Sultan said that legal action would be taken against all those involved in spreading hate material.
Additional IG south Punjab Kamran Khan, Additional IG Special Branch Rao Abdul Kareem, DIG CTD were also present.
After the meeting, the cabinet committee members met with divisional peace committee and religious scholars. Ulema expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements and said that all the stakeholders were prepared to maintain peace during Muharram.
The cabinet committee also inspected procession routes, different Imambargah, besides all facilities, including medical care, drinking water provision.
