PESHAWAR, Jun 20 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, in his message on World Refugee Day observed on Friday, emphasized the urgent need for global attention toward the plight of Afghan refugees, saying that being a refugee is not a crime but a deeply painful compulsion.
“No one willingly abandons their home, homeland, or identity,” he said, urging for greater compassion and understanding for displaced individuals, particularly the millions forced to flee Afghanistan due to decades of conflict and instability.
Highlighting Pakistan’s longstanding humanitarian role, the Governor said the country especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has hosted Afghan refugees for decades, setting a global example of generosity and solidarity.
“Pakistan, and particularly this province, have shown the world that standing with the oppressed is deeply rooted in our culture, history, and religious values,” he added.
Governor Kundi praised the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for hosting the largest number of Afghan refugees despite limited resources, offering them dignity, protection, and essential services.
He pointed out that the consequences of war are long-lasting and often displace generations.
“The ongoing suffering of refugees from Afghanistan, Palestine, Syria, and other war-torn regions continues to shake the conscience of the international community,” he remarked.
The Governor stressed that a refugee is not weak but a victim of circumstance who deserves empathy and support, not discrimination or neglect.
He called on the global community to uphold refugee rights and take meaningful steps toward sustainable and dignified solutions.
In conclusion, Governor Kundi prayed for peace around the world, the end of all wars, and a future in which every human being can live safely and with dignity in their homeland.
Meanwhile, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi in a meeting with a delegation from the merged districts, comprising former Senator Alhaj Taj Muhammad, former MNA Bilal Afridi, Secretary Abdul Waheed, and social figure Wali Muhammad focused on the rights and pressing issues faced by the people of the merged tribal districts.
The delegation expressed grave concerns over the continued denial of constitutional and legal rights to the residents of merged areas.
They criticized the provincial government for what they described as the unjust seizure of development funds, claiming that the unfair distribution of resources and centralized decision-making have exacerbated the sense of deprivation among the tribal population.
Governor Kundi assured the delegation that he would continue to raise his voice at every relevant platform to protect the rights of the merged districts.
He said that he would also meet with the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to bring these issues to the highest level of national attention.
“The purpose of the FATA merger was to bring backward areas into the mainstream, not to push them further into neglect,” the Governor stressed. He added that ongoing injustices in the merged districts would not be tolerated in silence.
The delegation appreciated Governor Kundi’s leadership and efforts, expressing hope that his commitment would help ensure the tribal communities receive their rightful share of development and governance.
