PESHAWAR, Jun 18 (APP): Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, has pledged that every action taken would be aimed at upholding the rule of law and delivering justice to the people.
Speaking at a ceremony organized for the oath-taking of the newly elected cabinet of the Peshawar High Court Bar here on Wednesday, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi congratulated the new members and emphasized the strong relationship between the Bar and the Bench, stating that the two cannot be separated.
He urged young lawyers to follow in the footsteps of their seniors, support developmental projects and take on greater responsibility, saying that such initiatives would benefit everyone. Justice Afridi also stressed upon lawyers to discharge their responsibilities with honesty and within the ambit of constitution. He also mentioned the ongoing construction of a new court complex in Peshawar.
“Our top priority is to address public grievances,” the Chief Justice stated, adding, “We have had great lawyers who served as role models for us.”
He paid tribute to senior legal figures including Abdul Latif Afridi, Barrister Zahoor ul Haq, and others for their contributions.
Justice Afridi further noted that steps are being taken to improve facilities for lawyers and judges alike and acknowledged the challenges faced by the lower judiciary, reaffirming the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring justice for all.
Acting Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, Justice Syed Muhammad Attiq Shah, also addressed the gathering. He praised the Chief Justice of Pakistan for attending the event and stressed the importance of leveraging modern resources to improve the justice system.
Justice Attiq Shah informed that over 236,000 cases remain pending in the lower courts, with a significant number in family courts. He called for collective efforts by all Bar Associations to expedite case resolution and strengthen the rule of law.
