Dera Ismail Khan , Jun 14 (APP):In a commendable effort to maintain urban hygiene during Eid-ul-Azha, the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) Dera Ismail Khan executed a comprehensive Eid cleanliness operation across the city. The initiative was launched to swiftly and hygienically dispose off animal waste generated during the three-day religious festival.
According to WSSC DIKhan Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohsin Habib, the Company ensured a citywide cleanup across all eight union councils of Dera Ismail Khan. “We ensured a citywide clean-up across eight union councils, collecting over 3,750 tons of animal waste from more than 1,000 collection points,” he said while talking to APP on Saturday. “All the collected waste is safely transported to designated dumping sites under strict hygienic protocols to prevent environmental and health hazards.”
To handle the enormous workload, the WSSC mobilized an extensive fleet of 75 vehicles, comprising 54 government-owned sanitation units and 21 vehicles hired from the private sector. A variety of heavy machinery and equipment was also deployed to support waste removal and dumping operations efficiently and promptly.
Dr. Mohsin Habib praised the extraordinary dedication of WSSC staff, particularly the frontline sanitary workers who worked around the clock despite the hot weather and increased workload. “Our sanitary workers are the real heroes of this operation. Their tireless efforts ensured that the city remained clean and livable during and after Eid,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the successful operation reflected the company’s strong planning, field coordination and public service commitment. “Cleanliness is not just a service but our responsibility and I am proud of my entire team for fulfilling it with dedication and discipline,” he added.
The operation, which was part of the Company’s special Eid-ul-Azha action plan, aimed not only to manage waste but also to promote public awareness about cleanliness and environmental health. The WSSC also established special complaint cells and response teams to ensure real-time redressal of citizen complaints during the festive days.
Citizens across Dera Ismail Khan also appreciated the timely and effective services of the Company, with many acknowledging the improved standards of hygiene compared to previous years.
