SCO economic think tank alliance established in Beijing

BEIJING, May 29 (APP)::The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Economic Think Tank Alliance and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Economic Forum were held here to establish a stable exchange and cooperation mechanism for the sustained development of regional economic cooperation.

The conference was initiated and hosted by the Institute of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

Delegates from relevant domestic departments, as well as representatives of SCO member states, observer states, and dialogue partner think tanks, attended the event and delivered speeches.

Representatives at the meeting both at home and abroad called on all parties to increase exchanges through the platform of the Economic Think Tank Alliance to provide intellectual support for the deepening of the SCO regional economic cooperation.

As an exchange of international think tanks held before the SCO Qingdao Summit, the Forum aims to establish a stable exchange and cooperation mechanism for the SCO economic think tanks and a think tank alliance platform for the sustained and healthy development of regional economic cooperation.

The meeting focused on issues such as advancing the institutional arrangements for trade facilitation and liberalization in the SCO region and deepening the new direction of the SCO regional economic cooperation.

The meeting signed the “Shanghai Cooperation Organization Economic Think Tank Alliance Cooperation Framework” and the “Shanghai Cooperation Organization Economic Think Tank Alliance Beijing Consensus.”

Vice Minister of Commerce Qian Keming pointed out in his speech that the SCO Economic Think Tank Alliance as a non-governmental cooperation mechanism is a brand-new thing, and it conducts relatively independent cooperation based on the principles of openness, voluntariness, equality, and flexibility.

President of the Academy of Commerce Gu Xueming pointed out in his speech that the rapid development of regional economic cooperation in the SCO has been synchronized with China’s reform and opening up.

In the future, the SCO Economic Think Tank Alliance will establish direct cooperation relationships among its members.

The alliance will adhere to the principle of openness, and it will open up all the countries’ think tanks, other SCO cooperation mechanisms, and other international organizations’ think tanks to open up the SCO. Regional economic cooperation provides comprehensive solutions and reliable intellectual support.
