ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP):As Eid ul Adha approaches, tailors across the country were facing accusations of overcharging customers for stitching clothes. Many tailors have reportedly stopped taking new orders, citing a surge in demand, while others were charging exorbitant rates for their services.
According to reports, some tailors have doubled their stitching charges due to the increased workload and demand for Eid clothes.
A customer, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that tailors have increased stitching charges by up to Rs 200 to 500 for a single suit.
Tanzeela, a customer while sharing her experience said “I have visited several tailor shops, but none of them are willing to take my order and It’s as if they are selective about who they want to cater to.”
She told that some tailors have even displayed notices outside their shops stating that “booking is closed,” further exacerbating the situation.
Tailors were taking advantage of the situation and charging  exorbitantly adding that the authorities need to step in and regulate their rates,” she stated.
Another customer Sundas said “I had to pay Rs 500 extra for a simple shalwar kameez just because it’s Eid season. It’s ridiculous”.
She added that she was  struggling to make ends meet as the sole breadwinner of her family and paying a large sum for stitching clothes for  four kids and herself was a significant burden.”
Ahmed, a tailor said “Our workload doubles during Eid season, and we need to charge accordingly. It’s not about fleecing customers; it’s about fair compensation for our work”.
He claimed that they were  working round the clock to cater to the demand. If they don’t charge extra, they won’t be able to deliver quality work”.
We work tirelessly throughout the year in anticipation of the Eid season, so we feel justified in charging higher rates during this time,” he started.
