RAWALPINDI, Jun 02 (APP):A high-level meeting was held at the regional police office in chair of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa about to reduce traffic accidents caused by heavy vehicles on GT Road, highways, and other major routes.
The officials from the National Highways and Motorway Police, senior traffic officers from Rawalpindi, and traffic officers from Taxila, Cantt, and Mehrabad attended the meeting.
DPO Attock, Sardar Ghiyas Gul, joined through video link.
Participants shared their suggestions on how to prevent deadly accidents caused by overloaded trucks, dumpers, tractor trolleys, and public transport vehicles.
RPO Babar Sarfraz Alpa emphasized the need for joint action by the Motorway Police and District Traffic Police.
He directed strict checks on driver licenses and vehicle fitness certificates.
The vehicles lacking proper documents should not be allowed on the roads, he said.
“To save lives, a strict crackdown against overloaded vehicles must be launched, and traffic SOPs should be strictly followed,” he added.
The RPO also instructed officers to use social media to educate drivers about road safety.
He stressed the importance of field monitoring and training sessions for drivers to help them understand traffic rules, the dangers of overloading, and the need for vehicle fitness.
“These steps will not only reduce the number of accidents but also create a safer travel environment for everyone,” RPO Alpa concluded.
