2396 candidates contesting on 650 seats

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): As many as 2396 candidates are in the run in 50 union councils of federal capital in the first ever local government elections on Monday.
There are 13 seats in each union council including one chairman and one vice chairman, two female members, six general members, one each youth, minority and peasant or laborer member.
According to details, there are 254 candidates are in the run on 50 each seats for chairmen and vice chairmen with 1210 candidates contesting against 300 seats of general members (six in each union council).
Moreover, there are 351 female candidates contesting on 100 seats, 248 peasant or laborer candidates against 50 seats and 332 candidates are facing each other on 100 seats reserved for youth and minority members (one in each union council).
For candidates for chairmen and vice chairmen, the constituency will be whole of the union council while for general members every union council has been bifurcated into six wards.
Similarly, for female candidates each union council has been divided into two wards while for youth, minority and peasant and laborer members whole union council will be a constituency.
Election Commission of Pakistan has divided Islamabad District into 50 union councils and 676,795 voters will elect 650 members including chairmen, vice chairmen, female and general members and youth, minority and peasant and laborer members.
