ISLAMABAD, Oct 18 (APP): As many as 19 matches were decided on the third day of the First Chairman POF Board National Ranking Tennis Championships 2016 at Ordinance Club, Wah Cantt on Tuesday.
Muhammad Abid, Raja Shahid, Abaas Khan, Barkatullah, Shahid Afridi, Arham Atiq and Shahzad Khan moved into the second round by beating their respective opponents. Veteran player Hamid ul Haq fought hard but was unable to win against Raja Shahid.
Hamid ul Haq won the first set at 6-4 by breaking 10th game of Raja Shahid. Shahid came back strongly and won the second set at 6-1, took the final set at 6-3 and the match. The match lasted for two hours and 40 minutes.
Best encounter of the day was played between Talha Bin Asif and Shahid Afridi. In the first set the score reached 6 all as both players held their own serves. The set was decided in the tie break in which Talha won at 7-3.
In the second set Shahid played quality tennis and took the second set at 6-3 by playing from the baseline and levelled the score one set all. In the final set the score once again reached 6 games all and the set was decided in the tie break, which was won by Shahid Afridi at 7-1.
The match lasted 3 hours and 5 minutes.
