Zahid for preparing youth to make Pakistan green

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6 (APP): Federal Minister for Law, Justice and climate change Zahid Hamid Thursday underline the need for preparing young minds to make Pakistan green.
He was addressing a certificate distribution ceremony of a tree plantation campaign held under the Green Pakistan Programme here.
Zahid said,”I really want to appreciate the efforts of these young mind and Pakistan Institute for Environment and Development Action Research (PIEDAR).These small steps can bring bigger changes. PIEDAR is doing excellent job in environmental education.”
He also highlighted that, “This is first practical initiative of plantation under Green Pakistan Programme taken by Ministry of Climate change with school children. The purpose of the initiative was to prepare young minds to make Pakistan green.
Federal Minister mentioned that, “Pakistan signed Paris agreement and showed its commitments to implement it. Pakistan is going to participate in 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-22) in November. This plantation campaign before COP-22 is also a step to prove our commitment and also to show that we are taking concrete steps to create awareness and involving our children. “
The Ferderal Secretery Syed abu Ahmned Akif said,” We are really proud to our young students who made our first effort successful in making Pakistan green. They showed wonderful efforts and contribution in the plantation campaign to fulfill our target of 100 million trees in the country.
Prime Ministers Focal person on climate change and green Pakistan Programme Rizwan Mehboob also advised and thanked children and their teachers that,” You have to take care of planted trees in your Institution and make sure that they are growing and flourished properly.
“The role of teachers is also very important in Green Pakistan Programme who can educate and motivate their students very well about the importance of planting a tree” he added.
Pakistan Institute for Environment and Development Action Research (PIEDAR) Chief Executive Syed Qutub said while addressing the participants that,” PIEDAR is working hard for environment education. The green Pakistan Programme is great initiative of govt. We are happy to become part of this campaign under Green Pakistan Programme.
Total seven schools were participated in the campaign which include IMS G-6/2, IMS No.1 G-8/4, IMS No. 2 G-8/4, I feel school at IMS No. 2, IMS No. 2 G-10/2, IMS No.1 G-10/2 and I feel OSC F-11/1. 153 students participated in this campaign.
Approximately 600 trees were planted in this two-day campaign that was conducted in last month .The survival rate of the trees is about 60%.
The tress planted include Kachnaar, Locaat, Jaman, Guava,Lemon, Amaltas, Jacaranda, Hibiscus and fiddlewood trees.
