Violent extremism 'affront' to UN principles, Global Forum told in Baku

UNITED NATIONS, April 26 (APP): The head of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), a body mandated to promote harmony among nations, Tuesday emphasized the need to counter narratives of hatred and mistrust in order to prevent violent extremism.
“The Alliance is the soft power tool established to contribute to a more peaceful world by countering radicalization and polarization, by encouraging greater intercultural understanding and engaging in projects and programs that advance these goals,” UNAOC High Representative Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser said during the opening session of its 7th Global Forum in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku.
He said that this year’s theme “Living together in inclusive
societies: a challenge and a goal” converges with the four pillars of the UN: peace and security, human rights, rule of law, and development.
