Train-launched Night Coach Shalimar Express inaugurated
LAHORE, Jan 15 (APP): Pakistan Railways General Manager, Junaid Qureshi Tuesday inaugurated Night Coach Shalimar Express Train, to be operated between Lahore and Karachi, on public private partnership basis.
Briefing media here, he said the train consisting of 14 coaches, would reach Karachi Cantt. Station within 18 hours via Faisalabad and Multan.
The GM said the train's commercial management had been outsourced under Public-Private Partnership through advertisement and inviting bids to M/s Shalimar Group.
Qureshi said the private party would be responsible to bring substantive changes in the value added service for passengers, while, the PR would provide locomotives and coaches.
To a question, he said the Shalimar Group offered a bid of Rs. 631.95 million (70.2 percent earning capacity of the train), besides investing Rs 81.838 million in value added services.
The Group has initially deposited Rs. 100 million for repair of locomotives and would deposit 10 percent of the total amount of contract per year as performance security to Pakistan Railways, he maintained.
The agreement shall remain in force for five years and extendable for another term of five years on mutually agreed terms and conditions.
