Expert hints existence of a live volcano in Ziarat

QUETTA: Feb 06 (APP) – An expert from Geological Survey of Pakistan on Thursday hinted that the materials emitted as a result of explosion in Ziarat could be a sign of volcanic activity in the area. Talking to media persons, an official of GSP Sardar Saeed Akhtar said that the GSP teams were collecting the samples of materials vomited by cone and would sent it to the laboratory to trace the main source, and ascertain how deep the activity was taking place. He was of the view that the laboratory results would change the very basic concept that the volcanic activity could cause a wide scale earthquake. Sardar Saeed said that in the past there was no record of any active volcano in Pakistan adding that though the event in Ziarat was minute but of very great importance. The official however, said that it was pretty premature to deduct that the area was in immanent danger. It is worth mentioning that residents of Killi Waam, a small locality in district Ziarat battered by a devastative quake in October 2008, had noticed a huge quantity of dark black material at the top of a mountain where an explosion had taken place a couple of days ago. The cone shaped hole which emitted the deep dark material and is several meters deep was still felt emitting heat APP/A.Shakoor
