ISLAMABAD, Aug 10 (APP): Convener sub-Committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms, Zahid Hamid has said that the salient features of ‘Unified Election Act’ would be revealed soon.
He said this after having a meeting of the committee here on Wednesday.
He said the committee has completed the process of reviewing the draft of ‘Unified Election Act’ and accepted the suggestions of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the act.
Zahid Hamid said ECP would carry out its experiments on electronic and biometric voting machines within two weeks.
The ECP received 11 offers regarding Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and Biometric Voting Machines (BVM) and accepted five of these, he said.
He said a bill regarding salaries of the employees of ECP has been finalized and will be tabled soon in the both houses of the Parliament.
The political parties have opposed procedures for Senate Election and the committee will give final decision regarding the the election, he added.
The next meeting of the committee will review the process of registration of Overseas Pakistanis.
He said the committee has directed National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to make the process of voters verification easier.
