Softball, baseball included in Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Asif Azeem

KARACHI, Aug 4 (APP): The games of softball and baseball have been included again in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
This was stated by general secretary of Softball Federation of Pakistan, Asif Azeem here Thursday.

In a statement here he said that the decision to this effect was taken at the 129 IOC meeting held in Rio Wednesday (Aug 3).

Asif said that the IOC decision augurs well as there were over 65 million softball and baseball players enjoying this game around the world.

He said that the two games were included in Beijing Olympics of 2008 but were later obmitted.

However, Asif added, these would again be the part of the Tokyo Olympics to be held in 2020.

He said that the OIC decision would go a long way towards the promotion of softball and baseball at international level.
The drive for the inclusion of the games in Tokyo 2020, were initiated in 2013 and the World Baseball Softball Federation Confederation (WBSC) was formed.

The softball women and baseball men teams would now participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Asif said that Pakistan has also undertaken efforts since 2013 for the inclusion of these two games in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

He felicitated president of IOC, Thomas Bach, WBSC chief, Riccardo Fraccari, secretary general, Ms. Low Beng Choo, president ISF, Dale Mcmann, president of Pakistan Olympics Association, Gen. (Retd) Syed Arif Hassan, and president Pakistan Federation Baseball, Syed Khawar Shah, for the return of these two games at Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Asif said that efforts of these officials were remarkable.
