SIUT to host an international seminar on eve of its 40th anniversary

KARACHI, Oct. 26 (APP)- Sindh Institute of Urology and
Transplantation (SIUT) will celebrate its 40th anniversary this
December and plans to host an international symposium “Free with
Dignity,” projecting the unique philosophy of medical care.
Over hundred delegates including some globally renowned
personalities of medical profession hailing from various parts of the
world will attend the five -day international symposium beginning from
December eigth, said an SIUT official on Monday.
SIUT was said to be practicing a homegrown philosophy of tertiary
medical care in the country, providing easy access to medical care in
specialized fields without any discrimination of cast, color, creed or
religious belief and that too free of cost.
An elaborate programme, said the official has been chalked out for the
symposium comprising scientific sessions, professional workshops and
public debate in the specialized fields of medical sciences including
urology, nephrology, transplantation, oncology, hematology,
gastroenterology, radiology, pathology and ethics.
The official said developments taking place in the world of
medical sciences and as how to translate those advancements for the
benefit of Pakistani population will also figure prominently in the
sessions.
This international symposium was said to also serve as an event
of thanksgiving to express its gratitude to all those who have
witnessed the journey of the Institute during past four decades and
extended their support in transforming the Institution into a role
model medical care center from a modest ward of the Civil Hospital of
Karachi of seventies to a 800 bed hospital treating over a million
patient on yearly basis.
With 12 kidney transplants performed every week the SIUT happens
to be one of the largest living donor transplant center in the world
and with a record of more than 750 dialysis sessions every day makes
the Institute as one of the largest dialysis center in the world.
SIUT also believes that the successful practice of its philosophy
in health sector can be emulated in all those countries where health
sector is suffering due to resource constraints.
