ISLAMABAD, May 30 (APP): Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research (NFS&R) visited Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) Arid Zone Research Institute (AZRI) at Umerkot to witness the research and development activities of the Institute in the region.
Federal Minister during his visit inaugurated high density grafted ber orchard irrigated by drip irrigation system whereas Senator Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Chairman Senate SC for NFS&R inaugurated the PARC Bioremediation System to clean city wastewater for agriculture use, said a statement received here on Monday.
The delegation who witnessed the research and development activities and performance of AZRI has recommended the upgradation of AZRI as it serves the more area of rangeland management, livestock, arid horticulture, water conservation besides other agricultural research and development activities.
Dr. Nadeem Amjad, Chairman PARC while expressing his views said that government focusing to the development of remote areas and Umerkot is one of them.
On this occasion, he announced honoraria for Dr. Attaullah Khan, Director (AZRI) Umerkot, scientists and staff members for encouragement and in recognition of their performance.
On this occasion former senior PARC scientist Dr. Mubarik Ahmad said it’s all about the vision of former Chairman PARC Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad and leadership of Director of the Institute.
During his visit Senator Syed Muzaffar Hussain, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on NFS&R, Dr. Nadeem Amjad, Chairman PARC, Peter Dickrell, Chief Party USAID, Dr. Ahmad Bukhsh Mahar, Member Plant Sciences-PARC, Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad, Project Director Research for Agricultural Development Program (RADP), Dr. Amjad Pervaiz, Director General Southern-zone Agricultural Research Centre (SARC) Karachi and group of progressive farmers Dr. Noor Ali Shah, Imdad Nizamani, Syed Ghulam Rasool Shah and others were with him.
