Seniors-juniors hockey series from Saturday

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): A three-match series between Pakistan’s national senior and the under 21 hockey teams will commence from Saturday at National Hockey Stadium Lahore.

“Both the sides are already attending preparation camps in Lahore and will play matches from October 8 to 10,” a Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) spokesman said on Wednesday.

The senior team is being trained at the National Hockey Stadium under Khawaja Junaid, the head coach, while the junior squad is getting training at Johar Town Stadium under national junior head coach Tahir Zaman, he said.

Incidentally, both the teams have upcoming international engagements in Malaysia.

The national side is getting ready to defend their title at the 4th Asian Champions Trophy in Kuantan, scheduled from October 20-30, whereas the junior team will be in action at the Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor Baru, scheduled to be held from October 31 to November 6.

Sultan of Johor Cup has now become the most prestigious annual international tournament for the national junior teams. The spokesman said that the series between seniors and juniors would provide them useful match practice ahead of the important events.
