Senate standing committee on planning discuss pace of development projects


ISLAMABAD, Oct 17 (APP): The Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reforms was held here under the chairmanship of Senator Col ® Syed Thair Husain Mahadi which reviewed the latest progress of the projects being undertaken under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) across the country.

The committee also considered and reviewed the implements in the way to the execution of the development projects including laying of transmission line from Matyari to Lahore, Gadani Power Plant, investment in Quaid-e-Azam solar park, matters relating to Kalarkahar and Thar coal projects besides discussing in detail, the expenditures in the budget utilized upto June 2016 under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2015-16.

Chairman of the committee directed the concerned authorities to adopted a good and a comprehensive strategy before initiating any development project.

The Secretary Planning Commission briefed the committee about the implementation process of the CPEC projects.

He informed them for the security of Chinese companies six wings with 4,502 personnal have been recruited while meeting with Ministry of Interior after two weeks, is also being held on regular basis.

The secretary further said that the planning commission is also preparing terms of references (TORs) in consultation with the provinces.

In this regard, he said that the Ministry of Interior has been provided Rs. 1.3 billion.

He informed the committee that out of US$46 billion under CPEC investment, US$35 billion have been allocated for energy sector projects.

Senator Saeed ul Hassan Mandokhail in his comment said that Ministry of Planning and Development is a backbone for the development of the country.

He termed the CPEC as game changer but said that National interest should also be kept supreme.
