ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP):The Supreme Court on Monday directed former Vice Chancellor (VC) University of Sargodha (UOS) Professor Dr. Muhammad Akram Ch. to submit record of appointments made during his tenure as VC till April 09.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel heard the bail plea filed by Dr Akram Ch against a reference filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over appointments in the Sargodha University.
During the course of proceedings, Special Prosecutor NAB Imran Ul Haq said that Dr Akram made appointments in the university in violation of rules.
Justice Azmat Saeed asked whether advertisements were published for appointments.
The counsel for Dr Akram said that recruitment were made after adopting proper procedure and advertisements were also issued in this regard.
The NAB prosecutor said that NAB filed reference against 369 appointments which were made without advertisement. Reference was not filed against appointments which were made according to rules, he added.
Justice Azmat Saeed asked how many people were recruited during Dr Akram’s tenure.
The NAB prosecutor responded that 1744 appointments were given during the former VC tenure out of which 369 appointments were made illegally.
He said that there were seven witness in the case and the charge was not framed yet.
He said that Dr Akram’s trial would be completed in three months.
The counsel for Dr Akram said that accused’s age was above 70 and he holds a Ph.D degree in Arabic.
He pleaded the court to grant some time for submission of whole record regarding appointments.
The court accepted his plea and directed him to submit record in 15 days.
