LAHORE, Sept 4 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad
Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting which was participated by a high level delegation of the World Bank led by Country Director Patchamuthu Illangovan.

The meeting reviewed progress of programmes continuing with the cooperation of World Bank in education, health and other sectors in the province.

Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said the World Bank
was an important partner of the Punjab government with regard to improvement of social sectors and with its cooperation; several programmes were running successfully for providing the best facilities to people of the province. He said the role of the World Bank was commendable for improvement of social sectors.

He said the Punjab government had taken comprehensive
measures for the improvement of education, health, potable drinking water and skill development sectors. He said revolutionary reforms were being introduced in education and health sectors.

The chief minister said the amount of scholarship had been increased to one thousand rupees per month for girl students of class six to 10 in 16 districts of the province and districts of south Punjab had been given priority in this programme.

Shehbaz Sharif said nutrition programme was of vital
importance to eliminate malnutrition among children and added that the cooperation of the World Bank was welcomed in this regard.

The chief minister directed to consider further
expansion of the scope of nutrition programme. He said there was a need to work on multi dimensions to eliminate malnutrition among children.

He directed Chairman P&D that a comprehensive plan should be evolved for expanding nutrition programme and collaboration with regard to the World Bank.

Shehbaz Sharif said the Punjab government was implementing a coordinated programme of preparing quality skilled manpower. He said that under Skill Development Programme, thousands of youth had been made skillful so far and lakhs of youth of the province would be empowered by imparting vocational training by 2018.

Assistance by World Bank in skill development sector would be welcomed, he added. The chief minister said the Punjab government was spending billions of rupees for poverty alleviation and improvement of social sectors.

Country Director World Bank Patchamuthu Illangovan while
speaking on the occasion said Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif is a visionary leader and he had made unprecedented measures for progress of the province and improving the living standard of people. He said that investment of billions of rupees in the programme of provision of clean drinking water by the Punjab government augers well. Setting up of Punjab Social Protection Authority was an excellent step of the Punjab government, he added.

He said the Punjab government was moving forward in a right direction with regard to education, health, preparation of skilled work force and social sector development.

Programme Leader World Bank Dr Inamul Haq gave a briefing regarding important features of nutrition programme in connection with removing malnutrition among children.

Provincial Ministers Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Begum Zakia
Shahnawaz, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Mian Yawar Zaman, Ch. Muhammad Shafiq, Advisors Kh. Salman Rafique, Dr Ijaz Nabi, Chief Secretary, Chairman Bank of Punjab, Chairman Planning & Development, secretaries and senior officers of departments were also present.
