Plant Breeders Rights bill tabled in NA: Bosan

MULTAN, Nov 28 (APP): Federal Minister for Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Bosan said “The Plant Breeders Rights” bill had been tabled in the National Assembly
to ensure availability of high quality seeds.
Bosan expressed these views while addressing a seminar on challenges to agriculture and PM Kissan package 2015 here on Saturday at BZU.
He said work on seed act had been completed in 2007 but the previous government did nothing in last five years. Bosan said he had taken-up it again and various amendments had
been made to control the seed-mafia.Bosan said farmers were facing problems as prices of
commodities had reduced in international market from last two
years adding that the incumbent government was striving
hard to improve financial condition of farmers.
He said the initiative of PM Kissan Package had been
taken first time in history of the country in which about
1,250,000 farmers of Punjab would get compensation.
He said Rs 14.5 billion had been fixed for solar
tube-wells.
He said 67 percent population directly or indirectly
linked with the agriculture sector and there were 95 percent
small farmers having less than 12 acre land while 62 percent
farmers having less than five acre land in the country.
He suggested growers to avoid conventional crops like
cotton, wheat and rice and cultivate horticulture crops and
vegetables as they could get better profit.
He said the incumbent government would resolve all
problems faced by growers.
Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed said
the PML-N government had privided facilities to farmers
through the PM Kissan Package.
He said the provincial government was providing
Rs 450,000 subsidy on each unit of laser leveller and funds
for brick-lining of water-outlets were enhanced from 21 million
to Rs 42 million.
DG Agriculture (extension) Anjum Buttar, acting VC BZU Prof
Dr Rana Ayaz and other also spoke.
