PEMRA starts monitoring about ban on airing Indian content

ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (APP): Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Friday completely banned Indian content and started proper monitoring of TV channels and FM Radio.

The licence of any television channel or radio that violates the ban will be immediately cancelled. All distribution networks, all PEMRA regional offices and sub-offices have been already issued directions in this regard.

The ban on Indian content has been effective from 3 pm today (October 21). The license of TV channels and FM radio stations, found guilty of violating the ban, would be revoked without any show-cause notice.

The ban was imposed upon receiving government response to a summary PEMRA had forwarded earlier. The government delegated complete powers to the media watchdog pertaining to the decision-making on airing of Indian content in the country.

In its 120th meeting, the authority decided to withdraw one-sided concession given to India in 2006 by the then Musharraf administration.
