ISLAMABAD, May 25 (APP): Pakistan women netball outfit will be perhaps the only Asian playing side to miss the 9th Asian Senior Women Netball Championship as the sponsors on which they were relying, have refused to support them.
The championship is scheduled to be held in Thailand from July 29 to August 6.
“We won’t be able to chip in the mega event as the two banks with whom we were in talks with for the sponsorship have expressed their inability to support us,” President Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) Mudassir Arian told APP on Wednesday.
Though Pakistan women failed to live up to their billings and
finished ninth in the last edition of the championship, held in Malaysia two years ago, Arain said he was hoping better results from them this time.
“It is unfortunate our women are not leaving for the event as they had worked really hard for the event and were looking eager to outsmart other teams,” he said.
He said the countries participating in the championship other than Pakistan included Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Thailand, Brunei, Korea and Chinese Taipei.
“It is a huge setback for our women players as this event would have given them a very good exposure,” Arain reckoned.
