Pak envoy calls for UN intervention on Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Nov 7 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan Farukh Amil Monday called for the intervention of the United Nations on the issue of Kashmir, stressing the need for respecting international laws, besides turning ears seriously to the neutral views of the UN.
“We don’t want wars. We need to seek for mutually beneficial solutions through peaceful negotiation,” he said in an interview to Mainichi Shimbun, a Japanese daily.
The ambassador emphasized that the UN was the only player to act as a mediator, taking East Timor as an example.
“We also want Japan to help us so the people would recognize it as an international issue. The territorial rights should be decided by a plebiscite of the people,” he said.
Calling for the resolution of Kashmir in accordance with the UN resolutions, he said the Kashmir region was controlled by India in the East and Pakistan in the West.
He said in the Indian Occupied Kashmir, scores of citizens had been killed during the clashes with the security forces amid protest demonstrations held since July.
