ISLAMABAD, Aug 22 (APP): Federal Secretary for Interior, Arif Ahmed Khan Monday assured that the issues of overseas Pakistanis will be resolved on priority.
This he said while having a meeting with Chairman Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) Board of Governors, Barrister Amjad Malik who called on him and discussed issues related to Overseas Pakistanis.
The issues which came under discussion included NADRA registration fee for issuance of National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) in United Kingdom, provision of Machine Readable Passport facility at Pakistani missions, issuance of character certificate to Pakistani expatriates and restoration of Mobile registration team’s visits to process NICOP.
Barrister Malik briefed the Federal Secretary about problems being faced by overseas Pakistanis and informed that in UK Pakistani expatriates especially elder and disabled persons faced a lot of problems to get NICOP due to suspension of mobile registration service of NADRA.
He further informed the secretary that the facility of Machine Readable Passport is not available at 26 Pakistani missions abroad which increased problems of Pakistani diasphora.
He said that Danish government has allowed dual nationality to Pakistanis. However, the government of Pakistan needs to do the necessary work in this regard which may be expedited.
He further maintained that overseas Pakistanis have to suffer due to delay in issuance of Character Certificate from Police authorities.
The Chairman requested the federal secretary for early resolution of problems being faced by Pakistani expatriates.
Director General (Welfare and Services) Sajid Mehmood Qazi also accompanied the Chairman.
