Ju-jitsu winning athletes to be provided all out support: Secretary sports

LAHORE, Aug 4 (APP): Secretary Sports Punjab Nayyar Iqbal on Thursday assured full support to ju-jitsu players and said that Sports Board Punjab (SBP) would extend all possible assistance to medal-winning athletes.

Pakistan ju-jitsu team which has won 15 medals in Asian Beach Ju-Jitsu Championship in Sri Lanka called on Secretary Sports Punjab Nayyar Iqbal at Punjab Stadium.

National ju-jitsu squad comprising five male and four female athletes secured one gold, five silver and nine bronze medals in the championship competed from July 28 to August 1 in Sri Lanka.

Secretary Sports Punjab Nayyar Iqbal, addressing the gathering showered praise on the national ju-jitsu team saying that 15 medals in a single event is a great performance and it must be acknowledged at all levels.

He said national ju-jitsu team made the entire nation proud through their amazing performance and we expect that our talented players will put up the same extraordinary performance in future major events like Asian Games.

Nayyar Iqbal was quite impressed when he was told about the fine performance of national ju-jitsu team in Asian Beach Championship since 2006.

“The track record of our national ju-jitsu team is quite impressive and we can predict equally good showing in future as well,” he added while talking to media.

Pakistan’s medal-winning ju-jitsu athletes include Jahanzeb Rashad, Awais Ashiq, Rafiq Siddique, Beenish Khan, Humaira Ashiq, Maryam, and Ambreen Ashiq.

Earlier, Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation (PJJF) President Khalil Ahmed Khan briefed the Secretary Sports Punjab about the performance and history of national ju-jitsu team.

He also informed that Pakistan team will also participate in the fifth Asian Beach Games scheduled to be held in Da Nang, Vietnam next month.
