In-form young players from PSL can be included in T20 WC squad: Waqar

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (APP): Head Coach of national cricket team Waqar Younis has hinted the inclusion of young in-form players in T20 World Cup squad if they perform extra ordinarily in Pakistan Super League scheduled next month.
“Though, no major change is expected in the team for the mega event, however, PSL must be given importance and if some young player seemed to be in excellent nick and playing extra ordinary cricket then he should be given a chance,” the coach said while talking to a private TV channel.
“We need to see the form of the players as well not mere the name,”he said, adding, by the time the World Cup would approach, all the things hopefully would be on right track.
Replying to a question, the coach said the recent training camp was organized to gauge fitness of the players as this was the only time we could utilize for the purpose before the mega event.
“It was right that domestic tournaments were going on in parallel with the camp but one should give more respect to international cricket even if domestic cricket suffers to some extent,” he clarified.
He said there had been a considerable change in New Zealand team’s approach as they had become more aggressive and the national team would really have to work hard to beat them at their home ground.
“We will have to change the mode and play positive cricket just like other teams including New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and England,” he opined. “I am working since long to change the mind set of players especially after the world cup but one should understand that things don’t
change overnight and take time.”
Waqar said whenever the team loses a match criticism was made on
him as if he was the only one to decide about affairs of the team.
“I am not the only one to decide about the final eleven as captain and
manager are also there to give their input,” he underlined.
The coach complained that critics just sat on Media and criticize the
team which put added pressure on the players thus affecting their
performance.
Replying to a question, he said Test captain Misbah ul Haq and middle
order batsman Younis Khan were brilliant players and they must be taken
along with the team as long as they were fit.
“I would like to see them not only against England and in Australia
as well. They should make their mind that would be available to the team for
these two tours,” he said.
“The team needs them. If both of them are fit then it would be a huge
benefit to the team and young players,” he remarked.
Responding to another question, the head coach said he had worked
with Mohsin Hassan Khan for a year and a half and whatever the latter was
talking about him was all baseless.
