Honor killing, anti-rape bill to be tabled in joint sitting for approval: NA told

ISLAMABAD, Sep 7 (APP): Minister for Law Zahid Hamid on Wednesday informed National Assembly that honor killing and anti-rape bill will be moved in the joint sitting of the Parliament for approval soon.
In question hour, he said under the proposed bills quantum of sentence has been enhanced. It is proposed to include offences in the name of pretext of the honor in “fasad-fil-arz”.
Such offences, even if waived or compounded will be punishable by imprisonment for life, he said.
The minister said, presently under section 182 of the PPC the offence of false information with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person is punishable upto six months imprisonment.
This sentence upto three years has for the first time been proposed for police officials who found guilty of submitting incomplete or defective investigation/challans, he said.
The minister said, presently three rape cases two at Sessions Court West and one at Sessions Court East, Islamabad were pending adjudication.
He said that 79 rape cases had been disposed of during the last five years in Sessions Court East & West, Islamabad.
He said a project titled, Helpline “1099” for Legal Advice on Human Rights Violations has been launched for legal advice on human rights violation cases and referral services to address grievances of the victims.
Since March 2015 to date, he said that 36431 people have approached the Helpline, out of which 2972 eligible callers have been provided legal advice and referral services.
