LAHORE, June 1 (APP): Pakistan cricket team middle order batsman, Asad Shafiq believes if Pakistani team performs to a higher level in the test series then it will be able to put the English side under pressure in the one day series during the tour of England.

“It is very important for us to perform to an exceptional level in the test matches against England and if we do so then we can keep the opponents under pressure in the one day matches “, he told media here on Wednesday at Gadaffi stadium.

He expressed his optimism that Pak-team will put up a fine show against English side in the test match adjusting with the challenging playing conditions of England.

“Fast bowlers and English conditions are always challenging for us and that is why special emphasis is being laid in the skill training camp to cope with English bowling by practicing in nets “, he said.

Asad said the experienced duo of test captain Misbah ul Haq and Younis Khan are the backbone of Pak batting in the test matches and young players will be learning a lot from their batting techniques and expertise.

To a question the batsman said he was fully concentrating on improving his batting skills rather trying to become a substitute for Misbah.

“I am fully satisfied with my number six placing in the batting order and now I am aiming to become a permanent member of the one day team the way I am in the test side “, he said adding ” To achieve this target I am going through comprehensive training focusing on longer stay at the crease and to commit lesser mistakes “.

“I want to a batsman who has the capacity and ability to fit in all the formats of the game and it is a heartening sign that I have duly justified in the role of a middle order batsman in the test side during my so far five year association with the team “, he asserted.

“Playing at number six position does not give a lot of opportunity to play a long innings but I always try to play my due role in teams success by contributing valuable runs through skillful batting “, said Asad.

To a question, he said instead of getting the attention of English county cricket organizers, he wants to play memorable innings for Pakistan to equally contribute in teams success in the test matches.

He praised the efforts of Pakistan Cricket Board to prepare the players in all aspects to defy a strong English challenge during the tour.

“We had a very beneficial physical training camp at Abbottabad and now we are engaged in a skill training camp in which the coaches are working hard to overcome the gray areas of players and then we will be having a pre-series camp in England to fully adjust with the English conditions “, he said.

Answering a question, the English team much reliance is on its pace battery and they have only one spinner in the side due to which the fast bowlers are under great deal of responsibility to perform.
