Fruit exports increase 57 percent in 2 months

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): The exports of fruit from the country surged by 57 percent during the first two months of the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
Fruits worth $61.586 million were exported during July-August (2015-16) compared to the exports of $39.230 million in July-August (2015-16), according to the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The overall food group exports from the country during the period witnessed negative growth of 23.15 percent by declining from $514.218 million last year to $395.188 million during the current financial year.
Meanwhile, on year-on-year basis, the fruit exports witnessed increase of 80.51 percent in August when compared to the same month of last year.
The fruit exports during August 2016 stood at $38.500 million as compared to the exports of $21.327 million in August 2015.
On month-on-month basis, the fruit exports in August 2016 increased by 66.77 percent when compared to the exports of $23.086 million recorded in July 2016, the data revealed.
It is pertinent to mention here that the overall exports from the country during the first two months of the current fiscal year witnessed decline of 8.19 percent.
The exports during July-August (2015-16) were recorded at $3.138 billion compared to the exports of $3.418 billion during the same period of last fiscal year.
The imports into the country, however increased by 10.32 percent by going up from $7.150 million last year to $7.888 million during the period under review.
Based on the figures, the trade deficit was recorded at $4.750 billion, showing an increase of 27.28 percent when compared to the deficit of $3.732 billion during the first two months of last year.
