ISLAMABAD, Sep 23 (APP): The First Pakistan Women Tenpin Bowling Championship will roll into action at Leisure City Bowling Club Islamabad from September 26 to 30.
“Around 150 female bowlers from all over the country will feature in the championship in the singles and doubles events,” Secretary Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation Ijaz-ur-Rehman told APP on Friday.
He said that the federation recently held a women tournament at the Capital level and after noticing their keen interest in the game it had been decided to hold a championship at the national level.
Ijaz said that the winners and runner-ups of the national championship would be awarded with cash prizes and trophies. He said that tenpin bowling was a relatively nascent sport in Pakistan but it was heartening to note that along with men a large number of women were also taking keen interest in it. “This is a positive sign for the uplift of this game in Pakistan.”
He said that Pakistan’s representation in tenpin bowling at the world level had increased during the recent years as more and more players were getting opportunity to compete at the intercontinental and intra-continental l levels.
“Our bowlers are now featuring in world events on regular basis. I’m optimistic if they continued getting exposure in international events soon they’ll be among world’s top players,” he said.
