Erdogan assures ‘highest degree of support’ on Kashmir issue


ISLAMABAD, Nov 17 (APP): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday said that Turkey would continue to provide “highest degree of support” to Pakistan on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We will continue to extend the highest degree of support as Turkey is the current president of OIC Contact Group on Kashmir,” the Turkish President said in a joint stake out with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here at the PM House.

Erdogan stressed that the Kashmir issue needed to be resolved through dialogue between Pakistan and India.

“The issue of Kashmir needs a solution based on dialogue mechanism between Pakistan and India, in accordance with the UN resolutions and the demands of Kashmiris,” he said.

The brothers and sisters of Kashmir have come to a point where we no longer can ignore them, he said.

Expressing concern over increasing tension at border between Pakistan and India, Erdogan said “We are very concerned and keeping a close eye on the tension along the Line of Control and the loss of

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif mentioned that during the meeting, he updated President Erdogan on the continued grave human rights
violations in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the current state of
Pakistan-India relations.

He thanked President Erdogan’s efforts for promoting a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute and Turkey’s active role at the OIC Contact Group on Kashmir.
