ABBOTTABAD, Apr 5 (APP): While the ruling Awami National Party (ANP) is celebrating the new name of NWFP but the people of Hazara division are raising voice against the move by burning tyres and putting barriers on Karakorum Highway for the fourth consecutive day here Monday.
Interestingly besides former MPAs and MNAs, lawyers, members of civil
society, journalists and vendors joined hands and demanded of Senator
Raza Rabbani led constitutional reforms committee to declare Hazara a
province in larger interest of inhabitants of the division.
Defending the move and policy of his party, former President PML-N
Hazara chapter, Pir Sabir Shah said keeping in view the wishes of the
people of Hazara, DI Khan and other parts of hindko-speaking majority,
the party had proposed the prefix Khyber along with pukhtoonkhawa in
the best interest of the province.
He argued that the new name Khyber Pukhtoonkhawa may initially sound
alien to the inhabitants of the area but in the long run it might
fulfill their wishes.
Former speaker National Assembly, Gohar Ayub Khan accused PML-N leaders
of betraying the people of Hazara by compromising on the new name and
remarked that with the passage of time the prefix Khyber would
disappear while only Pakhtunkhawa would remain.
Meanwhile, Tahir Faraz Abbasi, President District Bar Association
(DBA), Shad Muhammad Khan, President High Court Circuit Bench Bar
Association (HCBBA), Fazal Haq Abbasi, former president, PHCBBA and
Iftikhar Khan Jadoon Advocate passed a unanimous resolution against the
change of name of the province, adding that we were protesting in
larger public interest.
