Pakistani envoy and Gandhi’s grandson to make joint appeal for help to flood-affected people -

UNITED NATIONS,Sept 2 (APP)- Pakistan’s U.N. Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon and Rajmohan Gandhi, grandson of Indian leader M.K. Gandhi, will make a joint appeal to the international community on Friday to help millions of flood-effected Pakistani people, it was announced on Thursday.The appeal will be made at U.N. Headquarters in New York at a press conference being held to the “sensitize the International Community/media about the gravity of the situation” in Pakistan, a press release of Pakistan Mission to the United Nations said.

IMF to provide 450 million dollars emergency flood aid to Pakistan -

WASHINGTON, Sept 2 (APP)- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced on Thursday to provide 450 million dollars in immediate emergency financing to Pakistan to help the country manage the aftermath of the devastating floods that have led a huge humanitarian crisis and impacted economic prospects.Managing Director of the Fund Dominique Strauss-Kahn made the announcement after a meeting with Pakistani Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.

Chins denies reports of sending troops to Pakistan -

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (APP): China has rejected reports of the presence of over 11,000 troops in northern Pakistan, saying that such “groundless reports” were made with “ulterior motives.” “We believe the attempts of some people to fabricate stories to provoke China-Pakistan or China-India relations are doomed to fail,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu said in a statement Wednesday.The comment came in response to recent reports by some American and Indian press that China had deployed more than 10,000 troops in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan.

Pakistani peacekeepers donate medicine to a hospital in Sudan -

UNITED NATIONS, Sept 2 (APP): UN peacekeepers from Pakistan on Wednesday donated assorted drugs worth more than $3,000 to help a teaching hospital in the Sudanese town of Wau meet patient demands from four neighbouring states, according to a report received here.“These drugs are meant for our treatment during our mission here in Sudan, but as no one is falling sick frequently, we thought of helping the needy,” said Major Intisar Ul-hag, commanding officer of the United Nations Mission in Sudan’s Pakistani Aviation Unit in Wau, during a ceremony to mark the event.

Pakistani dates to be displayed at Asian Fruit exhibition -

LONDON, Sept 2 (APP)- Pakistan is participating in the Asia Fruit Exhibition being organised in Hong Kong from September 8 to 10. Sources in the Commercial Wing of Pakistan High Commission said on Thursday the country will be taking part in the event under the name of ‘Pakistan Dates.’ Pakistan is the fourth largest producer of dates and is rated among the largest producers of date palm in the world with over 150 different varieties India is the largest importer with market share of about 38 percent while France and UK are second and third largest importers with shares of 4 percent and 2.5 percent respectively.The major countries importing both fresh and dried dates from Pakistan are India, USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Trio withdraws from the English tour

ISLAMABAD, Sep 2 (APP) - Pakistan test Captain Salman Butt and bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif are withdrawn from the tour of England on the advice of the International Cricket Council (ICC).“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ijaz Butt was advised by the ICC not to consider the three players for selection until the investigations into alleged spot-fixing during the recent Test series against England are completed,” the source was quoted as saying.

President inaugurated GTDMC

LAHORE, Jan 14 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday inaugurated the Gujranwala Tools, Dies and Moulds Centre (GTDMC) aimed at meeting needs of the local industry, besides boosting exports of country’s engineering sector.The president who is on a week long visit to Punjab to interact with the people and to launch key developmental projects unveiled the plaque of the centre here at the Governor’s House.

The centre, second of its kind after Karachi, will enhance indigenous production and reduce imports of about 11 million dollars.
The centre set by the Technology Upgradation and Skills Development Company (TUSDEC) will benefit state-owned industries, including engineering, automobile, and vendor industries, from the parts and the technical skills offered.
The centre will have facilities of designing, development and manufacturing of production tools, dies, moulds, jigs, fixtures, cutting and rapid prototyping aimed at promoting domestic production of dies and moulds.
The GTDMC has been designed to raise skill level of over 550 workers annually as part of its training activities and will subsequently generate employment opportunities.
The centre would not only substitute the import of dies and moulds but would also increase Pakistan’s engineering sector exports.
The GTDMC will be a common facility and skill development centre and cater to the needs of industrial clusters in and around Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Daska and Wazirabad.
